Description

Near mint insert (has speck of plastic stuck to back along with slight wrinkling in that isolated area), near mint+ cartridge (failed functional testing: ROM check), like new manual, & very good snap case because of heat damage to clear sleeve. Heat damage was mitigated by a clear protector case (not shown, disposed of). View high resolution photos.

BSOD (blue screen of death). Failed when play testing on shell-free AES console, didn't get game sound or picture, usually resulting in ROM check screen. Contacts were cleaned, same result. Could be a pin connection issue, haven't tested on further systems. Otherwise, the PCBs are a potential repair project.

That speck of plastic can likely be scraped away from the insert's surface by fingernail or by a more precise method, but haven't attempted. The reverse off cartridge does not have scuffing, what you see is the result of the common mistake of placing bubble wrap behind the cartridge and storing long term (bubble wrap residue, no cleaning attempted). If you wish to protect from frictional force, best to use an archival quality protective cartridge baggie that's acid free.

Provenance: This copy was originally acquired through a collection purchase on November 10th, 2022. The prior owner lived in California and has since moved overseas. He deliberately burned his most prized neo games, "I tossed them into a box and lit them on fire." A childhood friend of mine also chose a difficult solution to appease his family when he agreed to quit playing a collectible card game by burning his entire magic card collection back in the 1990s, since his family considered the game demonic. This situation is similar for this tragedy.

Other crispy carts acquired from this same collection:
Metal Slug X English AES (roasted)
Metal Slug 3 English AES (slightly roasted)
Metal Slug 4 classic English AES (roasted)
Metal Slug 5 classic English AES (not roasted)
Ninja Master's English AES (roasted)
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 English AES (roasted + partial reproduction)
SVC Chaos English AES (not roasted)
World Heroes Perfect English AES (roasted)

This is the original version without bug fixes or lesser fatalities.

English version of Samurai Shodown V Special (also known as Samurai Spirits Zero Special) for the Neo-Geo home cartridge system. To date, this was the final home release from SNKP. Shortly after release, the majority of copies were returned to SNKP during the recall to be *fixed* (reprogrammed) and so the unfixed version of SSVS AES has become among the rarest.
